The Holzminden is a passenger ship on the Weser and is used as a day excursion ship in regular services and for themed trips. The ship is operated by the Weser fleet . It is approved for a maximum of 400 people.
The ship was built with the construction number 10440 in 1978 at the Arminius shipyard in Bodenwerder on the Weser in Lower Saxony for the Oberweser Steamship Service (OWD). The ship was named after the town of Holzminden , a medium-sized center and the district town of the Holzminden district . Until 2003 the ship belonged to the Oberweser-Dampfschiffahrt GmbH . After a negative business result in 2002, the Supervisory Board decided to file for OWD's bankruptcy. In February 2003 the company was liquidated. In spring, MECO GmbH Nienburg acquired four ships, the Bodenwerder , the Holzminden , the Höxter and the Karlshafen, from the OWD and began shipping in 2003 under the name Flotte Weser.
The ship
The ship originally had a length of 46.00 meters and a square, flat bow area. In 1999 the bow area was rebuilt and a bow that is more common for passenger ships was added . This lengthened it to 47.05 meters. The Holzminden is a ship with two interior salons of different sizes and three open decks on two different levels. The rear open deck is covered. The larger of the salons has 120 seats, the other 60 seats. In 2015 the interior of the ship was renovated and refurnished.
