The action begins a few months after the end of the first season. Israel launched an air strike against Iran and the situation in the Middle East is very tense. Brody is now a member of the US House of Representatives when Vice President Walden meets with him. Walden strives for the presidency himself and suggests Brody as possible vice-president, which he gladly accepts. Shortly afterwards, however, Brody is caught up with his past when he is contacted by a supporter of Abu Nazir who asks him to obtain secret data. Brody initially refuses because he is not a terrorist himself, but is asked to take a position. Brody's wife Jessica found out by chance that her husband is now a Muslim, which shocked her. Carrie, who has left the service, now works as a teacher, but is now asked by the CIA to establish contact with a former informant in Lebanon. This should have valuable information and only wants to share it with Carrie. Reluctantly, Carrie finally agrees and travels to Lebanon, where Saul Berenson is already working.

Meanwhile, the Brodys get to know the family of Vice President Walden better in the States. While visiting a situation center, Brody witnessed the planned arrest of Abu Nazir, which he prevented at the last moment by sending a text message to the terrorist.

Abu Nazir's contact, Roya, informs Brody that the “tailor” who made the explosives vest (Season 1, Episode 11) must be taken to a safe place. The very nervous tailor doesn't trust him and tries to escape during a stop at a gas station, seriously injuring himself. When Brody tries to stop the bleeding, his wife calls him. In order not to betray himself by the groan of the injured man, Brody breaks his neck and buries the corpse. As a result, he no longer makes it to a fundraiser banquet in time, where Jessica is giving a speech instead. She is being brought home by her former lover and Brody's friend Mike Faber. She confides in him that she is not really happy with her marriage and that Brody was having an affair. Carrie returns to the States, but Estes refuses to accept her again with the CIA. Carrie shocks Brody, who is currently staying in a hotel. Brody then contacts Roya, who tries to calm him down. Carrie makes it clear to Brody that Abu Nazir doesn't shy away from dead civilians either and that he, Brody, is not a bad person. Brody finally collapses and confesses that an attack on America is planned. He is offered to help the CIA thwart Nazir's plans, whereupon he agrees and goes back to Jessica. Brody works with the CIA, but the analyst Quinn in particular distrusts him. Brody can't identify Roya’s contact, but reveals the Gettysburg tailor is dead. It is believed that it is the tailor's successor. To find out more, Brody meets with Roya on behalf of and under the supervision of the CIA, which implies that something is important in the tailor's business. Quinn and his team meanwhile investigate the business and initially find nothing out of the ordinary when several men in SWAT uniforms suddenly appear and open fire on everyone present without warning. All agents except Quinn and Galvez, who are both seriously injured, are killed and the attackers take away a box hidden in the store. However, Brody assures Carrie that he did not know about it. Mike Faber has since done his own research into Walker's death and has come to the conclusion that Brody shot him. However, he is ordered by the CIA under Saul to cease his investigation. Nevertheless, he tells Jessica about his thesis.

When no one is initially found there, Danny Galvez is suspected of helping Nazir escape, but that turns out to be wrong. When Carrie drives again, she realizes that Nazir is most likely hiding in the basement of the building and convinces the last FBI team still present to search the building again with her. In fact, she and a member of the team find the hiding place, but Nazir kills her companion and tries to escape. Carrie does not manage to stop him, but he is grabbed by the rest of the team. 24 12 Back in the woods The Choice Dec 16, 2012 Nov 3, 2013 Michael Cuesta Alex Gansa, Meredith Stiehm
Quinn has again received the order to kill Brody, who is now back with Carrie in the cabin in the woods. When the opportunity arises, however, Quinn reconsiders and later surprises Estes at his house, where he makes it clear that he will not murder Brody - among others for Carrie.

Abu Nazir's body is buried at sea, while the funeral ceremony for Walden takes place in Langley, during which Carrie and Brody sneak into Estes' office. However, an explosive device explodes in Brody's car during the ceremony, killing all but 26 survivors, including Estes. Brody realizes he will be held responsible for the attack, should it become known that he survived. Carrie helps him flee across the border into Canada. While they are about to have passports issued, Brody's family and a handful of federal agents also watch the confession video on television, which Brody recorded before his planned bomb attack on the Vice President, along with the video of a terrorist cell. After Carrie has let Brody go, she returns to the place of the attack and meets Saul there, who had previously assumed her death, since Carrie was missing.
