The Honert cave was a cave in Volkringhausen in the Grübeck valley between the Eisborn district of Balver and the Hönnetal . It was located in the mass limestone of the upper Middle Devon .

The cave was about 800 meters above the junction of the B 515 in the direction of Eisborn in a limestone cliff on the south-eastern wall of the valley and fell victim to the limestone quarry. It consisted of two or three chambers. Two were connected by a 28 meter long corridor. At the end of the cave there was a large hall that was 9 meters long and 5 meters wide. The deepest point of the crevasse cave was 16 meters below the cave entrance level.

The geologist Julius Andree , Münster, carried out excavations in the Hönnetal in 1925 and 1926. During four excavations in the Honert Cave, Andree found remains of a Stone Age burial in the rear part of the cave , ceramic shards from the Iron Age , four three- pfennig pieces from the city of Hamm (minted in 1736 and 1737) and one three- pfennig piece from the city of Soest (1740) made of copper.

Previously, excavations were carried out by Emil Carthaus in 1891. He found pieces of a human skull, pot shards and fossil bones.

The cave was also the site of ceramics from the earlier Iron Age .
