from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Honeydrippers was a British supergroup in the 1980s .

Emergence

The Honeydrippers were a rock and roll band from the 1980s, who took their name from Roosevelt Sykes , an American blues singer also known as the "Honeydripper". Robert Plant , the former lead singer of Led Zeppelin , formed the group in 1981 to achieve his longstanding goal of having a rock band with a strong rhythm and blues base. The band, originally formed in Worcestershire , also consisted of former Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page , Jeff Beck (like Page a former Yardbirds member); and other friends and well-known studio musicians . The band released only one recording on November 12, 1984, an EP called The Honeydrippers: Volume One

A single from the album was Sea of Love , a remake of a song by Phil Phillips from 1959. The song reached number 3 in the US charts in 1984. The EP went platinum - but there were no other releases by this group.
