occupation

Honeymoon is a Mexican psychological thriller with splatter elements and torture porn themes by Diego Cohen from 2015.

action

The shy but apparently nice Jorge Toledo is madly in love with the beautiful Isabel Herrera. However, this is actually married to Pablo. He follows her and creates seemingly random encounters again and again. After a disguised flat tire, he takes her to his apartment, where he ties her up and tries to make her fall in love with him. First, he throws away her wedding ring and then begins to make her submissive. Small offenses are followed by draconian penalties. So he lets her drink acid when she spurns his food. He also rapes her. When she tries to escape, he skins her left hand while fully conscious.

Meanwhile, Pablo is allegedly looking for his wife. When he finally knocks at Jorge, the latter lets him in and overwhelms him. Jorge kills him, not without first telling Isabel that it was actually Pablo's plan to have her murdered. Because Pablo wanted to cash in her life insurance. When Jorge tries to dissolve the corpse in acid, Isabel manages to escape. She drowns Jorge in an acid barrel.

A few weeks later the papers are full of the search for a missing man. Isabell is now holding a man captive and torturing him.

background

The film is staged as a kind of chamber play and is set mainly in Jorge's apartment. In addition to the two main actors, there are only a few supporting roles in the film.

Honeymoon was inducted into Ventana Sur's Bloody Window's Work in Progress and received a Roma Lazio Film Commission Young Talent Award and a $ 5,000 guarantee for worldwide distribution. It was also shown at the Brussels International Festival of Fantasy Film (BIFF), where it was nominated for the Thriller Prize.

The film was released in Austria as a mediabook in 2018 on the Dutch uncut label Extreme. There are three cover variations, all three of which are limited to 333 copies.
