Hongchun Ping

Hongchun ping ( Chinese  洪椿坪 , Pinyin Hóngchūn píng ) is one of the most important Buddhist temples in the Emei Shan Mountains in the area of Emeishan in the southwest Chinese province of Sichuan , which is one of the Four Sacred Mountains of Buddhism in China . It is a national focus temple of Buddhism in Han Chinese areas . It was originally built in the Ming Dynasty by Zen (Chan) master Chushan Xingyi楚 山 性 一.

The temple was rebuilt during the Qing Dynasty . Its name comes from the fact that there were three huge Chinese sura trees ( Toona sinensis ) in front of the temple . During the Sino-Japanese War , Chiang Kai-shek lived here for a short time.

Important buildings of the temple are the main gate, Guanyin (Goddess of Mercy) hall, main hall, Samantabhadra hall.

The temple has been on the list of monuments of the People's Republic of China (1-133) since 1961 . The temple is also on the Sichuan Province Monuments List .
