Honoré Vial

Honoré Vial (born February 22, 1766 in Antibes , † October 18, 1813 near Leipzig ) was a French Général de division of the infantry .

Life

Vial comes from a family of officials and officers; his father was an administrator, his brother Jacques was also a general. Colonel Sébastien Vial was his cousin.

As a volunteer, Vial joined the Navy on October 5, 1788 and served there until April 12, 1792. He saw the opportunities for a career in the infantry to be realized more quickly. He helped defend Bastia and with the rank of lieutenant he came to General Jean-Pierre Maurice de Rochon as an aide-de-camp .

After further promotions he came to General Antoine Guillaume Delmas . Vial fought with his own command in front of Rivoli (January 14/15, 1797).

Vial volunteered as Napoleon 's invasion of Egypt prepared. Under the leadership of General Jacques-François Menou , he fought near the pyramids (July 21, 1798) and was wounded near Alexandria . He took part in the siege of Acre (March / May 1799) and was again able to distinguish himself through bravery.

As a general de division , he took part in the Battle of the Nations near Leipzig (October 16/19, 1813). He fell on October 18, 1813 at the age of 47 and found his final resting place on the edge of the battlefield.
