Honoré Daumet
Pierre Jérôme Honoré Daumet (born October 23, 1826 in Paris , † December 12, 1911 there ) was a French architect.
Life
Daumet graduated from the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts de Paris and was Prix de Rome prize winner for architecture in 1855. As a member of the fine arts department of the Archaeological Institute of France in Athens, the École française d'Athènes took Daumet in In 1861 Léon Heuzey took part in excavations in Macedonia , which Napoleon III. out of interest in the battlefields of Gaius Iulius Caesar and in particular in the battle of Pharsalus . The excavation brought information about the region, which had not been archaeologically researched until then, and enriched the Louvre with a number of exhibits; the quality of the drawings that Daumet made on this mission make the excavations famous to this day.
From 1862 Daumet began to teach architecture. At the same time he held the position of Inspecteur-Général des Bâtiments Civils . From 1867 he assisted Louis Joseph Duc in building the Palais de Justice in Paris and continued the work after Duc's death. On behalf of Henri d'Orléans , he directed the reconstruction of Chantilly Castle . In 1885 Daumet was elected a member of the Académie des Beaux-Arts .
His students included Charles Girault , Frantz Jourdain , Mac Kim , Walter-André Destailleur and Hector d'Espouy . Daumet was married to the daughter of the architect Charles Questel . He had a close friendship with the sculptor Henri Chapu .
