history

Horhausen belonged to Theres Monastery from 1002 and remained there until secularization in 1803. It is first mentioned in 1023 in an imperial document from Heinrich II .

The "old chapel" was built towards the end of the 17th century by a Martin Bernhard with his son Karl Bernhard. This came from "Weteringen" to Horhausen. There was no altar, but figures of the crucified, the Virgin Mary and the apostle John carved out of stone . These portraits are now embedded in the outer wall of today's St. Borromeo Church and were brought from his homeland by the donor of the chapel. The chapel could hold a maximum of 15 to 20 worshipers, the front was open and closed with wooden barriers.

The subsidiary church of St. Borromeo belonging to the parish of Obertheres was built in 1773–1774 by the Theresian abbot Bernhard Breunig under the supervision of Father Gallus Hahn from the Theres monastery . Permission to build this church was granted on the condition "that it did not affect the prerogatives of the monastery, the Marienkapelle Obertheres , or the Obertheres pastor at any time and in any way ". The construction cost 1,165 guilders Frankish currency, the clock 56  fl. , Two bells 95 fl., Altar, benches, etc. 99 fl., Vestments and the sacred device 99 fl. To cover costs of the new church were also used the 1200 Gulden which the old chapel brought in. Various benefactors contributed the rest. At the beginning, Theres Monastery provided a silver chalice on loan. The coat of arms of Theres Abbey is emblazoned above the east portal of the rococo- style church. The white (1753) and the red cross date from the times of Theres Monastery.

On January 1, 1974, Horhausen was incorporated into the municipality of Obertheres as part of the Bavarian regional reform , which in turn was merged with the neighboring municipalities to form the municipality of Theres in 1978.
