history

Until the church is planted

Theres was first mentioned in a document in 802. The no longer existing Benedictine monastery was founded around 1045 by Bishop Suidger von Bamberg . As part of the Hochstift Würzburg (or the Theres Monastery ), Theres belonged to the Franconian Empire from 1500 . After secularization in favor of Bavaria in the Peace of Pressburg (1805), it was given to Archduke Ferdinand of Tuscany to form the Grand Duchy , with which it finally fell to Bavaria in 1814.

Incorporations

The community was created in the course of the municipal reorganization in Bavaria on May 1, 1978 by amalgamating the communities Obertheres, Untertheres and Buch. On January 1, 1974, the Horhausen community was incorporated into Obertheres.

coat of arms

Theres's coat of arms shows a split shield with an oil kettle on the right flank and a fox on the left. The fox goes back to Abbot Gregor II. Fuchs , who worked as abbot in the Benedictine monastery Theres from 1715 to 1755. The oil boiler is the symbol of St. Vitus , who died a martyr's death in boiling oil around 304 . The coat of arms was designed in 1959 by the Schweinfurt heraldist Fritz Kretschmar and confirmed by the Bavarian State Ministry of the Interior on March 17, 1960. Originally the coat of arms of the municipality of Obertheres, it has also been the coat of arms of the municipality of Theres since 1978.

In 1884 young men from Obertheres founded a sociable association called Frohsinn . They met in today's Gutschenke inn. At this time the first choral societies were formed. Since singing was increasingly the focus of the meetings, the association was renamed on December 14th, 1889 in Gesangverein Frohsinn . Later one joined the Franconian Singing Association . The Obertheres Choral Society is the oldest club in the Theres community.

The choir currently consists of 24 active singers. Once a week, 90 minutes of rehearsals are held under the direction of Bernhard Oberländer, mainly modern songs. The folk songs from the Ditfurth song collection are also maintained.
