Burgpreppach is a market in the Lower Franconian district of Haßberge and a member of the administrative community Hofheim in Lower Franconia . The place is popularly called Preppich .

Geographical location

The market town is located in the heart of the Haßberge . The most important rivers are the Baunach and the Hainbach.

geology

The community gained notoriety throughout Germany for the " Burgpreppacher sandstone ", which was used, among other things, to build the Reichstag building.

history

Until the church is planted

Castle and town of Burgpreppach came into the possession of the Fuchs von Bimbach family in 1344 . The aristocratic property was mediated in 1806 by the Grand Duchy of Würzburg . With this he fell to Bavaria in 1814 . In the course of the administrative reforms in Bavaria, the municipality of Burgpreppach was created with the municipal edict of 1818 .

Religions

704 residents are Protestant. The evangelical community has a church. The majority, 819 inhabitants, are Catholic. For them there are six churches in the parish that are subordinate to the Hofheim parish community. A large Jewish community lived in Burgpreppach at least since 1681 and until the time of National Socialism. At the end of the 19th century, around a third of the population were Jewish.

Incorporations

On January 1, 1972, the previously independent community Ibind was incorporated. On July 1, 1972, Gemeinfeld and Leuzendorf in Lower Franconia were added. Birkach followed on July 1, 1973. The incorporations were completed on May 1, 1978 with the incorporation of Fitzendorf, Hohnhausen and Üschersdorf.
