The Leuzendorf Castle lies on the edge of the Burgpreppacher local part Leuzendorf in district Haßberge in Unterfranken . The three-storey mansard roof building was formerly surrounded by a moat and has been extensively renovated since 2004.

history

In 1358 the village was already tenth owed to the Würzburg monastery . In the 16th century the fief was given to the Fuchs and von Leineck . In 1589, Prince-Bishop Julius Echter enfeoffed Christoph Heinrich von Erthal with the rule, which became the seat of the Leuzendorfer line of this old family. After the family died out (1805), the castle was inherited by the Barons von Schrottenberg . Middle-class buyers later bought the facility. The current owner, Hugo's family, began the extensive renovation of the small country palace in 2004. For the successful renovation, which was completed in summer 2007 and which largely took into account the historical character of the building, the von Hugo family was selected by the Hypo Cultural Foundation as one of three main winners of the 2007 monument award of the same name.

Building description

The simple, square palace structure is completed by a tiled mansard roof with dormers . The two residential floors rest on a lower base floor with partially blocked window openings. The upper floors are illuminated by five simple, rectangular pairs of windows and are accessible through a spiral staircase in the northeast corner. On the east side, a round arched portal with the Erthal-Schütz von Holzhausen marriage coat of arms allows entry. The castle was rebuilt in the 18th century, but essentially goes back to the Renaissance building by Christoph Heinrich von Erthal .

The interior has a stuccoed hall (around 1750) on the first floor , the rooms are connected by a central corridor.

The castle district is bordered by some farm buildings, some of which had to give way to new buildings.
