In 1250 Castrum Zilanum , Zeil Castle on the Kapellenberg, was first mentioned in a document. Bishop Heinrich I von Bilversheim handed the castle over to Ludwig de Rotenhagen as a pledge for borrowed money .
The castle complex, 120 meters long and 130 meters wide in the east, had two courtyards, a knight's house , two residential buildings and a castle chapel . There was a tall tower in the upper courtyard. No remains of the former castle have been preserved.
