Horsens Havn is the seaport of the Danish city of Horsens and is located at the end of the approximately 20 kilometers long Horsens Fjord in the southeastern Kattegat . It includes the Horsens Erhvershavn industrial port , owned by Horsens Havn A / S since 2001 , and the Horsens Lystbådehavn marina , owned by Horsens Municipality .

Two larger docks divide Horsens Havn into a north port (Nordhavn) and a south port (Sydhavn) . A 6.9 meter deep fairway leads to their facilities, which can be navigated by 160 m long, 24 m wide ships with a maximum draft of 6.7 m.

Horsens Havn is a member of the Danske Havne Association , an association of Danish commercial ports .

history

At the mouth of the Bygholm Å , a floodplain harbor was built during the Viking Age, which was expanded into an important trading port for the city in the Middle Ages. From the 17th century , the first half-timbered stores were built on the north side along a 200 m long ship bridge, which was called Ladebrohoved .

18th and 19th centuries

The increasing silting up of the floodplain harbor in the 18th century required repeated cleaning of the harbor from mud, which resulted in a new fairway that was built from 1785 to 1804. At the same time as the expansion and the early industrialization of the city, so did the port activities; A testimony to this time is the former customs house from 1837 (today Jensens Bøfhus ). From 1854 to 1857 work was carried out on the first large harbor basin , which was created to enable steam navigation in Horsens Havn. Due to the resulting increase in the handling of a wide variety of merchandise, the old Auenhafen finally lost its function as an industrial port.

The port was connected to the railway network by the state railway company Jysk-Fyenske Jernbaner in 1873 and by 1899 all quays were laid with rails. Further measures to expand the port were the deepening of the fairway to 15 feet in 1883 and the expansion of the quay facilities in 1898, which was followed by the construction of new storage facilities and silos.

20th century

The inner part of the old floodplain harbor was filled in from 1903–1904 and replaced by the Åboulevarden , because the industrial and domestic sewage discharged into the floodplain carried both stench and the risk of illness. At the end of the 1980s, the outside area was also filled in.

According to designs by the Danish architect Viggo Norn (1879–1967), a general cargo storage facility with an integrated port office was built in 1913, which is located at the tip of the "port triangle" protruding into the north port. The expansion of the port continued with the acquisition of port cranes since the late 1930s and the creation of new quays in the 1980s and 1990s.

Equipment, handling and transport

The equipment includes a gantry crane and two mobile cranes , of which the larger crane, which was purchased in 2000, can lift a load of up to 80 tons. In 2010, around 678,000 tons of goods were handled, including both bulk and general cargo .

The port is connected to the European trunk road network via the Danish motorway Østjyske Motorvej , a section of European route 45 .
