Horst Balzer

Horst Balzer (born May 31, 1928 in Allenstein , East Prussia , † August 5, 1997 ) was a German theater director , dramaturge , dialogue book author and dialogue director .

Horst Balzer attended the Leibniz Realgymnasium in Berlin . From 1946 to 1947 he worked as an assistant director at the Dramaturgische Bühne der Jugend in Berlin. This was followed by assistant directorships for Fritz Kortner , Helmut Käutner and Karl-Heinz Stroux at the Hebbel Theater and the Schiller Theater , Berlin , from 1948 to 1952 . From 1953 Balzer worked as a theater director. From 1971 to 1973 he was also chief dramaturge at the Freie Volksbühne Berlin and from 1973 to 1976 he was acting director at the Schauspielhaus Zürich . His productions include Carl Sternheim's Die Hose (1957), Maxim Gorki's Die Kleinbürger (1970), Carl Zuckmayer's Der Hauptmann von Köpenick (1977), Sternheim's Der Snob (1980) and Eduardo De Filippo's Filumena Marturano (1981).

From the 1960s to the 1990s, Horst Balzer was also active in film and television dubbing as a dialogue book author and dialogue director. His best-known adaptations include the German film versions of Rain Man (1988), Good Fellas - Three Decades in the Mafia (1990) and Das Schweigen der Lämmer (1991). In connection with the synchronization of Das Schweigen der Lämmer , the author Claudia Leinert described him as an "excellent director of the old school".

Horst Balzer had been married to actress Ina Halley since 1958 , with whom he had a son. His final resting place is in the Berlin forest cemetery in Zehlendorf . (Field 037-396)
