Horst Dornbusch

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Horst Dornbusch (* 1947 in Düsseldorf ) is an international brewery consultant , brewer and specialist author .

At the age of 22, Horst Dornbusch went to the USA in 1969 on a Fulbright scholarship. After studying sociology and political science at Reed College in Oregon and at Brandeis University in Massachusetts , he lived in Montreal / Canada, where he initially worked as a news editor for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation . After that, Dornbusch worked for almost a decade as the editor of travel books for Reader's Digest of Canada. In 1984 he moved back to Massachusetts and headed the technical editing department at Siemens Medical Solutions for ten years .

Dornbusch was already brewing his first beer privately in the early 1970s, although this was still illegal in the USA at the time. It wasn't until the fall of 1978 that President Jimmy Carter legalized hobby brewing. In addition to his job, Dornbusch familiarized himself with the subject, brewed countless types of beer at home and finally worked in a craft brewery on weekends . He then went into business for himself and founded his own brewery, with which he even won a bronze medal for an Altbier at the Great American Beer Festival.

The theoretical and practical experience he gained ultimately led to numerous book publications and extensive, worldwide travel activities as a brewery consultant and beer expert. His book "Dark Lagers", published together with Thomas Kraus-Weyermann, received the silver medal in the beer category at the 24th International Gourmand Awards 2019 in Macau .

Horst Dornbusch lives in West Newbury / Massachusetts and has both German and American citizenship.
