Horst Dröse

Horst Dröse (born November 23, 1949 in Frankfurt am Main ) is a former German hockey player who became Olympic champion in 1972.

Horst Dröse could be used as an all-round player in almost all positions, mostly he played in an outside position. In 1969 he made his debut in the German national team . Among other things, he played at the World Cup in 1971 and reached fifth place with the German team. A year later at the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich, Dröse played eight out of nine games, including the final of the first Olympic victory for the German hockey team.

For his participation in winning the gold medal at the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich, he was awarded the Silver Laurel Leaf on September 11, 1972.

Four years later, Dröse was also part of the German selection at the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal, when the team finished fifth. Horst Dröse played a total of 106 international matches from 1969 to 1978, 14 of them indoors.

Dröse began his career at SC Sachsenhausen-Forsthausstraße . From 1971 to 1975 he played at SC 1880 Frankfurt , with whom he became German indoor champion in 1972. From 1971 to 1975 the Frankfurters won the European Champion Clubs' Cup five times in a row . Besides Horst Dröse, Günther Dröse was also part of all five winning teams. Horst's uncle Karl Dröse had won the Olympic silver medal in hockey in 1936 .
