Horst Falke (soccer player)

Horst Falke (born November 6, 1938 ) is a former German soccer goalkeeper. For the BSG Lokomotive Stendal he played in 1959 and for the SC Chemie Halle in 1961 in the GDR Oberliga , the top division in GDR football .

Athletic career

At the age of 19, Horst Falke was included in the first team's squad for the 1958 season (calendar year game rhythm) as a replacement for the retired goalkeeper Günter Reh von Lok Stendal. The BSG Lok played after relegation from the league in 1958 in the second-rate GDR league . In this season, Falke secured a regular place with 17 appearances in 26 played point games, which he consolidated after the rise of the Stendal in the 1959 top division season with the nomination in 23 of 26 point games. Since Lok Stendal did not manage to stay in the league, Falke had to spend another season in the GDR league with the Lok team in 1960. He lost his regular place to his competitor Werner Bergner , who outstripped him with his 19 point games (Falke 12). Falke then moved to the top division SC Chemie Halle. The new league season was played with 39 games between January 1961 and June 1962, because GDR football wanted to return to the autumn-spring rhythm from 1962. Under coach Otto Werkmeister , Falke was initially classified as a substitute goalkeeper, but got his chance when the goalkeepers preferred at the start of the season, Heinz Weise and Helmut Wilk, injured themselves at the same time. Falke was able to play all league games from the 5th to the 13th matchday. After the summer break in 1961, Falke disappeared from the Halle squad and no longer appeared in higher-class football.
