Horst Fankhauser

Horst Fankhauser (born July 16, 1944 in Finkenberg im Zillertal ) is an Austrian mountaineer , mountain guide and former hut owner.

Life

In 1972 Fankhauser took part in the tragic Manaslu expedition in which Andi Schlick and Franz Jäger were killed (see Reinhold Messner # Climbing Manaslu ). Together with Wolfgang Nairz , their expedition on the Noshak (7485 m) set altitude records in hang-gliding . At the age of 55 he climbed his first eight-thousander: At noon on May 18, 1998, he was standing on the summit of Cho Oyu (8188 m) together with Alexander Huber , Barbara Hirschbichler and Georg Simair .

From 1975 to 2006 Horst Fankhauser was the landlord of the Franz-Senn-Hütte together with his wife Klara .

Fankhauser is married and has three sons.
