Horst Gruber (born September 24, 1972 ) is an Austrian football player and coach .

Career

As a player

Gruber began his career at SK Rapid Vienna where he was Austrian champion in the U18 federal youth center in the 1990/1991 season. Then he got a youth professional contract. He played in the U21 at SK Rapid Vienna. There he was able to win the Austrian championship again in 1991/1992. In 1988 Gruber was called up to the U16 national team of Austria for the U-17 European Championship in Spain , where he met players like Zinedine Zidane , Christophe Dugarry , Roy Keane or Hakan Şükür . The following year he qualified again with his year for the U-17 European Championship in Denmark, where he acted as captain. Because of injuries he was used in the SK Rapid Wien only once, in a game against DAC Dunajská Streda , in the combat team. This was followed by various loan positions: He spent the 1992/93 season at the Lower Austrian national division FC Tulln . For the 1993/1994 season he was awarded to the second division club Favoritner AC . He made his debut for the favorite AC in the Austrian second division in August 1993 when he faced SV Ried on the first day of the season .

At the end of the season, Gruber had 26 goalless appearances for the Favoritner AC. The club was subsequently relegated to the Austrian regional league . This was followed by another loan: it was awarded to the third-class Vorarlberg club Schwarz-Weiß Bregenz .

For the 1995/1996 season Gruber Rapid Vienna left firmly and joined the Regionalliga-Ost-Verein Floridsdorfer AC . After he was relegated to the city ​​league with the Viennese , he moved to the regional division SC Himberg in the summer of 1996 . In 1998 Gruber joined the city division police / fire brigade . In 2004 he was able to move up to the third highest division with the club called PSV Team for Vienna .

After promotion he played for the PSV for half a year before moving to the fourth-class KSV Ankerbrot Montelaa in January 2005 . For the 2005/06 season he went to league rivals SV Essling . With Essling he had to relegate to the league as bottom of the table at the end of the season .

In 2007 Gruber moved to the fourth class ISS Admira Landhaus . After a year at Admira Landhaus, he returned to Essling. 2009 moved to the Reichsbund League for FC Austria XVII . In 2010 an engagement with the eight-class Lower Austrian club UFC Obritz followed . After a season with the Hadres club , he returned to Austria XVII in the summer of 2011, which meanwhile took part in the eight-class 3rd class . With Austria XVII he was able to advance to 2nd class in 2012 and 1st class in 2014 .

As a trainer

Gruber began his coaching career as coach of the amateur team of Floridsdorfer AC , for which he had played in the 1995/96 season, which he took over from Thomas Flögel in September 2015 after the fifth round .

In April 2017, he and Managing Director Dominik Glawogger took over the post of head coach for the second-rate professionals in Vienna. He has been a trainer at SV-ESSLING since October 2018
