Horst Gutsche (born May 10, 1936 in Obrawalde's birthplace , Grenzmark Posen-West Prussia ) is a German numismatist and local researcher for the area around Herzberg (Elster) .

Career

His parents ran a farm in Bomst . From the end of the war he lived in various places in eastern Germany, and graduated from the Friedrich-Engels-Oberschule in Rochlitz in 1954 .

He then applied to the Potsdam University of Education and graduated from there in 1958 with the state examination as a high school teacher for mathematics and physics.

In the same year he began to work as a teacher at Oberschule  I in Herzberg, and since 1964 he has taught at the local extended high school . When he refused to become a member of the SED in 1973 , he had to leave the extended high school and then taught at the high school II until his retirement in 1992  .

Work as a numismatist and local history researcher

In 1967 Horst Gutsche was a founding member of the Numismatics Section of the Herzberg District in the Kulturbund of the GDR and has been its head since the beginning. He was instrumental in converting the specialist group into Herzberger Münzfreunde eV during the fall of the Berlin Wall and remained its chairman until the beginning of 2018. In 1993 he was also co-founder of the Herzberg (Elster) e. V.

In his capacity as a recognized local numismatist, he was often asked for his expert advice. In this way he determined and added to the numismatic content of the tower knob of St. Mary's Church, which was taken down during renovation work in 1988 .

Another stroke of luck for the city, Horst Gutsche and the numismatic experts was the coin find by Frauenhorst in 1996, which he was able to present to a broad public with the help of the published documentation and several specialist lectures.

Since 1991 he has been the author of articles in the home calendar for the Herzberg region on several occasions , and from 1997 to 2003 he was editor-in-chief.

When the Kultur- und Heimatverein tried to commemorate personalities born in Herzberg with memorial plaques, they also came across the doctor and numismatist Eugen Rahnenführer , as a result of whom Horst Gutsche took a leading role in researching the curriculum vitae of his colleague. He also organized the celebrations for the 200th birthday of the writer Louise von François .

Due to his former job as a teacher, he was particularly interested in the school chronicle for the years 1873 to 1944, which has been in the possession of the Kultur- und Heimatverein since 2001. In order to make it accessible to today's readership, he transcribed it from the Kurrent script and gave it in 2005 as Book out. For the same reason, he published the Mayor Biltz Chronicle in 2013 .

In recognition of his services in "homeland history research for Herzberg and the region [, ...] his tireless research and journalistic work [, ... his diverse commitment] for the development of the city's cultural life [... and] as an enthusiastic participant in shaping the town twinning" his hometown Herzberg made him an honorary citizen on July 16, 2009.
