Horst Hägele

Horst "Horrle" Hägele (born April 7, 1946 ) is a former German soccer player and coach .

Career

Horst Hägele moved in the 1970/71 season as a 24-year-old from the youth department of Union Böckingen to local rivals VfR Heilbronn . Hägele was an all-rounder and flexibly deployable on both offense and defense. Mostly he played in the central midfield position and formed the so-called "Böckinger Triangle" with the two other former Union players Martin Kübler and Reinhold Scherpp .

For VfR Heilbronn, Hägele took part in some big games. On December 12, 1970, he was a member of the team that defeated defending champion Kickers Offenbach 2-0 in the DFB Cup . Also in the DFB Cup, VfR managed a 6-0 win against the then regional league leaders FC Augsburg , with Horst Hägele neutralizing Augsburg's star player Helmut Haller .

Due to the placements of the past five years, VfR Heilbronn qualified for the newly founded 2nd Bundesliga South in the 1974/75 season . After numerous departures, including from Martin Kübler and Bernd Hoffmann , the VfR did not manage to keep the class, and he was relegated to the 1st amateur league . On the 19th match day of this season he suffered a serious knee injury, which meant the end of his professional career.

Other stations in his career were VfB Eppingen , Heilbronner Spvgg, FV Elsenz, TSV Talheim and TSV Güglingen.

Horst Hägele later worked as a trainer and returned to VfR Heilbronn. In the 1994/95 season he was the successor to the dismissed Klaus Funk coach of the association league team of the VfR, which he saved from looming relegation in five months. After that, he had to stop because of health problems. Previously, he had already looked after SpVgg 07 Ludwigsburg in the 1993/94 season.

Horst Hägele is an employee of the Beilstein community .
