Horst Hawemann

Horst Hawemann (born February 4, 1940 in Glogau / Silesia ; † July 13, 2011 in Berlin ) was a German theater director .

Life

Hawemann studied at the Moscow Theater School and later worked for many years as a writer and director at the Theater of Friendship . For the last few years he has been living freelance in Berlin, where he taught at the Berlin University of the Arts . Among his best-known works for the stage were “Kokori” (1979), “The Cat” (1986) and “Immer schön tiger” (1992). His production of Nikolai Robertowitsch Erdman'sThe Suicide ” was shown during the 1989 Theatertreffen both in East Berlin and played in West Berlin.

In addition to his productions at German theaters, he was also active in Russia, Austria, Belgium and Switzerland. Hawemann worked with Peter Ensikat . Together they translated Georgian fairy tales, among other things, which they performed on stages. In addition to directing, Hawemann also published about theater work. He died in 2011 of cancer diagnosed the year before.

In 1972 he was awarded the GDR Art Prize.

He is buried in the Evangelical Cemetery of the Rahnsdorf-Wilhelmshagen community (Saarower Weg 51), Department C.
