Horst Heine

Horst Heine (born November 16, 1930 in Karlsruhe ; † June 22, 2015 ) was a German doctor and cardiologist . From 1978 to 1990 he was director of the Central Institute for Cardiovascular Research of the Academy of Sciences of the GDR .

Life

Horst Heine studied medicine and received his doctorate in 1959 from the Humboldt University in Berlin , where he also received his habilitation in 1970 . From 1962 he was senior physician and later deputy director of the second medical clinic at the Berlin Charité . In 1977 he became deputy director and a year later, as successor to Rudolf Baumann, director of the Central Institute for Cardiovascular Research of the Academy of Sciences of the GDR in Berlin-Buch . He headed the institute until July 1990, and was succeeded by Karlheinz Richter . He was a corresponding member of the Academy from 1984, and since 1993 he has been a member of the Leibniz Society of Sciences.

During his medical and scientific work he was, among other things, the national coordinator for cardiovascular research and a member of the Council for Medical Sciences. He headed a WHO Collaborating Center for research and training in the field of cardiovascular diseases and was a member of the expert committee of the WHO Director General for Cardiovascular Diseases until the end of 1991.

He was a board member of the Society for Cardiology-Angiology, the Society for Internal Medicine and the CIANS, member of the editorial board of the academy journal Spektrum , the journal for clinical medicine , Cor Vas, CV World Report u. a.

He worked scientifically in the fields of physiology of blood and circulation, diagnosis and therapy of arteriosclerosis and in the field of preventive cardiology.

He has published over 200 scientific papers, several books and chapters in textbooks.

He was a member of the Council for Cosmos Research of the Academy of Sciences and headed the Cosmic Biology and Medicine group from 1986 to 1990.

From 1991 until his death he worked together with his wife and two daughters in a group practice for internal medicine.

Awards: Humboldt Medal in gold, Maxim Zetkin Prize of the Society for Clinical Medicine, Theodor Brugsch Prize, Honored Physician of the People , VVO in bronze, State Prize of the USSR for Science and Technology.
