Horst Kalbhenn

Horst Kalbhenn (born July 4, 1929 in Frankfurt am Main ; † January 17, 2012 ) was a German painter and sculptor of abstract art .

Life

Horst Kalbhenn was born in Frankfurt am Main in 1929 . At the Free Art School in Stuttgart and from Max Schellerer in Munich , Kalbhenn acquired the tools for his own artistic work and for teaching art at adult education centers (from 1955 to 1986) and as an art teacher at the Center for the Disabled in Oberschwaben (from 1979 to 1995). For ten years he was chairman of the fine arts section in the International Bodenseeclub and member of the Oberschwaben-Bodensee secession .

Horst Kalbhenn lived in Blitzenreute (Fronreute municipality) near Ravensburg until his death .

Initially still committed to the representational and emerged as an accomplished draftsman, his work changed in the 1970s to constructive and geometrical forms, as pen drawings show. But the figure and the landscape continued to form the starting point for his own artistic implementation of acrylic paintings and collages, which mostly grow outward from a center. In doing so, Kalbhenn fused the materials with the color, which he balanced and gave it materiality through pastose and multi-layered application.

His works have been shown in over 200 solo exhibitions; he also took part in numerous other exhibitions at home and abroad. His works are in private and public ownership, u. a. in the collections of the regional councils in Stuttgart , Freiburg im Breisgau and Tübingen .
