Horst Knechtel (born April 5, 1943 in Posen ) is a German local politician ( SPD ), mayor and headmaster .

education and profession

Knechtel completed an apprenticeship as a car mechanic. This was followed by almost ten years of training and further education with two comparable technical college courses in the field of public administration with a degree in administrative management. He completed an additional degree at the Administration and Business Academy in Mainz .

Knechtel worked for eleven years at the regional council in Darmstadt in various departments . For 20 years, he was the state school director and managing director of all seven Hessian administration seminars . He has been back in this position since 2003.

Knechtel was a member of the Darmstadt city parliament for more than three decades. He was a full-time member of the city council and from 1991 to 1993 chairman of the parliamentary group in Darmstadt. From 1994 to 1996 he was head of the city council.
