Horst Langes

Horst Langes (born December 2, 1928 in Koblenz ) is a German educator and politician ( CDU ).

Life and work

Langes first attended grammar school in Koblenz, but was then drafted into the Wehrmacht and then took part in the Second World War as a soldier . After graduating from high school in 1948, he began studying German, history, philology and theology at the universities in Mainz and Munich , which he completed in 1954 with the first state examination and in 1956 with the second state examination. He then entered the school service as a teacher. He had been a teacher since 1960 and was appointed director of studies in 1965. From 1995 to 2007 he was Honorary Consul of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg in Trier .

Political party

Langes joined the CDU in 1952, joined the Junge Union (JU) and was elected chairman of the Trier JU district in 1956. From 1962 to 1991 he was chairman of the CDU district association Trier-Stadt.

MP

Langes was elected to the Trier City Council in 1960. He was a member of the Rhineland-Palatinate state parliament from 1967 to 1974 and again since the state elections in 1975 until his resignation on May 20, 1975. From 1979 to 1994 he was a member of the European Parliament . From January to July 1994 he was Deputy Chairman of the EPP Group.

Public offices

Langes served from 1974 to 1979 as State Secretary in the Ministry of Culture of the State of Rhineland-Palatinate .
