Horst Prem

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Horst W. Prem (born on November 25, 1940 in Nuremberg ; died on July 23, 2019 ) was a German aircraft designer, Unitarian and vice-president of the umbrella association of free ideological communities as well as an author and environmentalist .

Education and professional activity

Horst Prem studied aircraft construction and lightweight construction at the Technical University of Braunschweig with a degree in engineering . He worked in management positions at Messerschmitt-Bölkow-Blohm GmbH and DASA AG . There he was most recently head of the technology department.

Horst Prem gained his first international recognition through his significant contribution to the German-American solar probes Helios 1 and 2 . He was responsible for the critical subsystems 'structure' and 'thermal balance' as well as for the interface 'satellite / rocket' of the American combination Titan - Centaur TE-364/4, which took off successfully for the first time after a miss in this combination with Helios. The earth's orbital speed of around 30 km / s had to be reduced by half in order to reduce the distance between the satellite and the sun by a factor of 4. Prem was able to prove that crystalline solar cells degrade insignificantly even at intensities of 11 E 0 ( solar constants ). Nothing stood in the way of the terrestrial application of photovoltaics . In addition, Prem made fundamental contributions to the use of fiber composite materials in aircraft primary structures, in electrical optics and in sensor technology.

He was co-editor of the books Luftfahrtforschung in Deutschland at Verlag Bernard & Graefe (2001) and Aeronautical Research in Germany - from Lilienthal until Today at Springer-Verlag (2004).

Unitarians

From 1977 to 1991 Horst Prem was President of the German Unitarian Religious Community , and until 2006 a member of the federal board. From 1993 he was head of the Bavarian unitarian community. From 1999 to 2012 he was vice-president of the umbrella association of free ideological communities (DFW) and co-editor of the DFW series of publications. 2003–2016 Horst Prem was chairman of the youth and family education organization Klingberg e. V., which operates an educational facility in Klingberg near Scharbeutz. He was co-editor of the DFW series and editor in charge of the Klingberger series.

Commitment to environmental protection

As President of the German Unitarian Religious Community (1985) and even afterwards, Horst Prem played a leading role in the submissions on environmental protection - amendments to the Basic Law regarding the state objectives of nature conservation , as they were finally taken into account in 1994 in Article 20a of the Basic Law .

Due to his scientific and organizational work on the development and dissemination of solar energy , Horst Prem became a founding member of the Solarinitiative München Land e. V. (SIMLA e.V.) and in 2001 co-founder of Solarkraftwerke München Land GmbH , which he was managing director from 2001 to 2008. In 2005 he received an award from the district of Munich for special services in environmental protection.

Horst Prem was married and had three children.
