Horst Riege (born April 27, 1953 in Essen ) is a former German soccer player .

Career

At the age of 18, the defender wore the Bayer 05 Uerdingen jersey and between 1974 and 1978 he played for the Bayer team in the first and second Bundesliga . In the second division season 1974/75 he celebrated promotion to the Bundesliga with Uerdingen as runner-up. After a failed move to Hércules Alicante , he continued his playing career in later years in the Oberliga Nordrhein at 1. FC Viersen , 1. FC Bocholt and TuS Xanten .

Horst Riege played a total of 33 Bundesliga games (5 goals) and 82 second division games (11 goals).

After his active career, Horst Riege switched to the coaching business. He has worked for Preussen Krefeld (Association and Oberliga), SC Schiefbahn (State and Association League), 1. FC Kleve ( State League), Rheydter SV (Oberliga) and GSV Moers (Association League), among others . In January 2010 he took over the coaching position at the state league club SV Sonsbeck and rose with him to the Niederrheinliga .

In the 2015/16 season he took over the position of sporting director at KFC Uerdingen 05 . After the missed return to the regional league, he left the club and became the new sporting director at the top division competitor TSV Meerbusch for the 2016/17 season .
