Horst Schmidt-Dornedden

Horst A. Schmidt-Dornedden (born March 20, 1921 ) is a former German diplomat who was, among other things, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Jordan between 1974 and 1979 and then Ambassador to Lebanon from 1979 to 1982 .

Life

Schmidt-Dornedden completed after high school to study at the Faculty of Law and Political Sciences of the University of Hamburg and laid there on August 1, 1952 his doctorate with the dissertation bases and development of federalism in the United States of America to the Constitution of 1787 from . As an employee of the higher foreign service, he was employed in the headquarters of the Foreign Office in Bonn and in various missions abroad. In 1970, he served as Counselor Deputy Head of Mission in Morocco and was promoted in this position on 15 September 1971 Counselor First Class, before the on November 2, 1971 Federal President was seconded. There he was ministerial advisor and head of the department for foreign affairs and during this time took part in the state visit of Federal President Gustav Heinemann to Luxembourg from November 27 to 29, 1973 , the first ever visit by a German head of state to Luxembourg.

In 1974 Schmidt-Dornedden succeeded Alois Schlegl as Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in Jordan and held this post until August 1979, after which he was replaced by Hermann Munz . In this function, he signed an agreement for the Federal Republic of Germany on November 25, 1976 with the future Finance Minister of Jordan , Hanna Odeh , on financial cooperation between the two countries.

He then took over the office of ambassador to Lebanon from Rüdiger von Pachelbel in August 1979 and remained there until 1982. Tono Eitel was his successor as ambassador to Lebanon in 1982 . He himself became Consul General in San Francisco on November 5, 1982, and remained in this position until his retirement in 1986.
