Horst Schumann (mathematician)

Horst Schumann (* 26. August 1929 in Leipzig , † 8. August 2020 ) was a German mathematician and SED - party official .

Live and act

After attending the Leipzig Humboldt School , Horst Schumann began studying mathematics at the University of Leipzig in 1948 . In 1955 he passed his diploma and in 1968 he received his doctorate from Herbert Beckert with a thesis on the determination of the whole differentials of elliptical bodies of dimension 1 and characteristic 0 .

In 1969 he became Deputy Director for Education and Training in the Mathematics Section and received the Facultas docendi . In 1970 he was appointed full professor . In 1971 he became director of the Mathematics Section and a member of the Scientific Advisory Board for Mathematics at the Ministry for Higher and Technical Education in the GDR . From 1975 to 1989 he was a member of the SED district leadership in Leipzig.

In 1998 he was disabled, in 1990 he was dismissed as a full professor and retired early.
