Horst Weber (born January 21, 1932 in Olbersdorf ; † February 5, 1999 in Dresden ) was a German painter and graphic artist

biography

Horst Weber completed an apprenticeship as a decorative painter and script painter from 1947 to 1950. From 1952 to 1957 he studied at the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts with Erich Fraaß , ME Nicola, Hans Christoph and Heinz Lohmar . From 1957 he worked as a freelance artist. From 1976 until the closure of the evening studies department in 1992, he was a lecturer at the Dresden University of Fine Arts, since 1986 in the evening school's painting class.

His painterly work is characterized by expressive colourfulness and is based on the painters of German expressionism and classical modernism . With his artist colleagues Claus Weidensdorfer , Manfred Schubert, Fritz Skade and Günter Tiedeken , he founded an “active visual artist in the Dresden-East district ” in September 1963 , with the intention of using the skylight hall of the studio building of the late romantic painter Eduard Leonhardi for exhibitions. The result was the Leonhardi Museum , an unusual form of exhibition space managed by artists in the GDR. In his self-image as an avowed Christian Weber observed a distance from the official cultural policy of the GDR.
