Hossein Sheikholeslam or Hussein Sheikh al-Islam ( Persian حسین شیخ‌الاسلام; * November 29, 1952 in Isfahan ; † March 5, 2020 in Tehran ) was an Iranian diplomat and politician .

Life

Sheikholeslam studied in Tehran. He was one of the students who took part in the 1979 Islamic Revolution and the occupation of the US embassy in Tehran . Sheikholeslam deputy was the Majlis . In the 1980s, Sheikholeslam was director of the Iranian Foreign Ministry for Arab Affairs, in which position he coordinated the participation of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards in Hezbollah operations . From July 1998 to October 31, 2003, Sheikholeslam was the Iranian ambassador to Syria . Sheikholeslam died on March 5, 2020 as a result of a SARS-CoV-2 infection.
