Hotel "Zum verunlückten Alpinisten" (Estonian: "Hukkunud Alpinisti" hotell ) is the title of a Soviet-Estonian , mystical thriller from 1979. Directed by Grigori Kromanov and Jüri Sillart .

Inspector Peter Glebski is called to the hotel "Zum verunlückten Alpinisten" in the Alps. When he arrives, it turns out that it was a false alarm. Inspector Glebski decides to spend the night in the hotel before returning home. He spends the evening with strange-looking hotel guests.

An avalanche goes down and cuts the hotel off from the outside world. Glebski has to deal with a mysterious murder case when Olaf is found dead. It seems to him that some of the visitors may be aliens .

Production and publication

The film is based on the 1970 novel Hotel "Zum verunlückten Alpinisten" ( Russian Отель "У погибшего Альпиниста") by Arkadi and Boris Strugazki .

Shooting began on September 5, 1978. The "Alpine scenes" were recorded in December and January in a Kazakh sports center near Tschimbulak , about two hundred kilometers from Almaty .

The film was made by the two Soviet production companies Tallinnfilm and Lenfilm .

Estonian, Latvian and Lithuanian actors acted as actors. The Estonians recorded their roles in Estonian , the Latvians and Lithuanians in Russian . Later, a version was also created in Russian for the Russian film market.

The premiere took place on August 27, 1979. The first performance in the GDR took place on July 31, 1981 in the Tivoli cinema in Berlin .

The film was extensively digitized in 2009 and was also released on DVD.
