Howard A. Nash

Howard Allen Nash (born November 5, 1937 , † June 12, 2011 ) was an American biochemist and geneticist at the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), a facility of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Bethesda , Maryland .

Nash earned an MD from the University of Chicago as a degree in medicine and in 1963 a Ph.D. with Julian Tobias' thesis Phospholipid membrane model importance of phosphatidyl serine and its cation exchanger nature. in biochemistry. After brief clinical work in paediatrics , Nash worked for the National Institute of Mental Health (NIH) from 1964 . Among other things, he dealt with the mechanisms of recombination and repair of DNA in bacteriophages . Further work dealt with certain genetic factors of intraoperative alertness .

Howard A. Nash has published more than 60 papers; he has an h-index of 34 (as of August 2018) . He has been a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences since 1988 and of the National Academy of Sciences since 1990 .

Nash was married to Dominie Nash. The couple had two children. Howard Nash died of complications from cancer .
