Howard Fried

Howard Fried (born June 14, 1946 in Cleveland , Ohio , USA ) is an American avant-garde conceptual artist , video artist and performance artist .

life and work

Howard Lee Fried studied at Syracuse University in New York from 1964 to 1967 and at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland . In 1967 he worked at the Cleveland Art Institute, from 1967 to 1968 at the San Francisco Art Institute and from 1968 to 1970 at the University of California .

He had his first solo exhibition in 1969 at the Art Company in Sacramento . Howard Fried was a participant in Documenta 5 in Kassel in 1972 in the department Individual Mythologies : Self-Presentation - Performances - Activities - Changes and Video . The performance he put on at Documenta 5 is typical of his work: Indian War Dance consisted of himself and an opponent who fought against each other in a simulated studio environment.

Fried lives and works in San Francisco .
