Hoya acuminata is a plant of the genus of wax flowers ( Hoya ) of the subfamily of asclepiadoideae (Asclepiadoideae).
features
Hoya acuminata is a climbing and hanging, epiphytic plant species. The shoots are 30 to 60 cm long ("1-2 feet") and strong. They are sparsely hairy around the nodes. The thick petioles are 2 to 5 mm long and occasionally slightly downy hairy on top. The leaf blades are narrow-elliptical to lanceolate-elliptical; they measure 6 to 11 cm in length and 1.5 to 3 cm in width. The leaf apex is pointed, the base is wedge-shaped. They are fleshy to slightly leathery and occasionally slightly downy hairy on the midrib.
The little flowered (2 to 5 flowers), umbel-shaped inflorescences are terminal or arise from the leaf axils. They stand upright, if they continue to grow, they can also tip over and then hang. The shafts of the inflorescences are about 1 to 2 cm long. The sepals covered with hairs are elongated-linear, 8 mm long and 2 mm wide, and taper off bluntly. The thin and bare flower stalks, however, are relatively long, 3.5 to 5 cm. The snow-white corolla has a diameter of 2.5 cm to 5 cm (depending on the stage of bending back of the petal tips). The petals are glabrous on the outside, hairy on the inside; but they become bald towards the tip. The petal lobes are bent back. They are narrow-triangular and pointed, 2 to 3 cm long and 5 to 8 mm wide. The secondary crown is stalked, the stalk about 5 mm high. The upright tips of the secondary crown are flattened; the lateral wings are bent inward and touch. This makes the tips look fleshy. The slender inner processes are 1 to 2 mm long; they curve over the stylus head. Fruits and seeds have not yet been observed.
Geographical distribution and habitat
The species occurs in Bangla Desh (Kasia Mountains), Myanmar (around Hkinlum), Bhutan , India ( Meghalaya , Sikkim ) and China from about 600 m ( 2000 feet ) to about 1300 m above sea level.
Taxonomy
The taxon was made by Joseph Dalton Hooker , who in 1883 validated an invalid name of George Bentham . But Hooker did not specify a holotype at the time. Michele Rodda et al. determined an isotype in the herbarium of the Royal Botanic Gardens (Kew) to be the lectotype (K 000438717). An isolectotype is in the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh (Scotland) under the number E00179581 The species is poorly known despite its widespread distribution. Most publications that treat the species more or less precisely do not contain images. Only two images were found on the Internet that at least show the inflorescence.
The section Pterostelma of the genus Hoya is typified by Hoya acuminata . But it has little meaning in the system. Hoya griffithiana Decne. ex Hook. fil. (1883) is a synonym . Hoya myanmarica PTLi (1994) was also included in the synonymy .
