Hoya globulosa is a plant of the genus of wax flowers ( Hoya ) of the subfamily of asclepiadoideae (Asclepiadoideae).

features

Hoya globulosa is a perennial , epiphytic , climbing plant with strong, woody shoots. The shoots are up to 5 m long and hairy. The leaves are stalked, the petioles are 1.3 to 2.5 cam long. The leaf blades are elliptical or oblong, 12 to 17.5 cm long and 5 to 9 cm wide. They are leathery and hairy. The apex of the blade is pointed long, the base is rounded.

The spherical inflorescence is multi-flowered and hangs down. The inflorescence stalk is 7.5 to 10 cm long. The flower stalks are whitish, wire-haired and about 2.5 cm long. The sepals are rounded. The yellowish or cream colored corolla has a diameter of 1.3 cm. The petal tips are short, curved back and glabrous on the inside. The secondary crown is pink at the base. The staminal tips of the secondary crown are broadly elliptical. The outer extension is round, the inner extension is pointed and upright. The large stamen processes are relatively wide.

The follicle fruit is 30 to 40 cm long and very thin. The seed measures 7 mm in length and is severely flattened.

Geographical distribution and habitat

The range of the species are subtropical mountain forests in Bhutan , Sikkim and West Bengal (India), Laos, Vietnam and southern China. According to Wennström and Stenman, the species is said to have also been found in Myanmar and Thailand.

It not only grows epiphytically on trees, but also on rocks in primary and also secondary forests. In Sikkim and West Bengal the species occurs from around 550 to 1,200 m above sea level. Averyanov et al. found them in Laos and Vietnam at 350 to 1,150 m above sea level.

Taxonomy

The taxon Hoya globulosa was first described by Joseph Dalton Hooker (Bot. Abbreviation: Hook.f. ). The lectotype is kept in the Kew Gardens herbarium (Hooker Hoya no. 32 [BM, K]).
