The Hoyt Head is a high and rocky headland on the Hobbs coast of Marie Byrd Land in West Antarctica . On the western flank of the Venzke Glacier , it forms the northeastern end of Bowyer Butte .
The first aerial photographs were taken in December 1940 during the first sighting of the headland by scientists from the United States Antarctic Service Expedition (1939–1941). The United States Geological Survey mapped them using the United States Navy's own surveys and aerial photographs from 1959 to 1966. The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named them in 1974 after Lieutenant Ronnie A. Hoyt of the Civil Engineer Corps of the US Navy Reserve Forces, a construction electrician and head of Byrd Station in 1971.
