Hubers Landhendl GmbH , based in Pfaffstätt in the Innviertel, is the main company of an Austrian group of companies that produces poultry meat . With 900 employees and 400 contract fatteners, the group generates annual sales of more than 300 million euros and is the market leader in Austria.

history

Maria and Johann Huber founded the company in 1973 as Huber Poultry Farm. In 1990 organic goods were produced for the first time .

At the turn of the millennium, Huber grew by taking over three insolvent poultry processors (Stanzel, Fehringer, Mirimi) including almost all of the contract fatteners. 2005 acquired the Huber plug end in economic difficulties, in 2002 (after an affirmative referendum Süddeutsche), built turkey slaughterhouse turkey AG in neighboring Upper Bavaria Ampfing , which has since produced Landpute branded Hubers.

In 2006, the company founders were honored with the Gold Medal of Merit of the State of Upper Austria , and the following year they handed over the business to their children Johannes and Sylvia Huber.

In 2009, a newly built hatchery was put into operation in Pettenbach , in which Huber initially held a 60% stake and took over all of the shares in 2014, when the previous co-partner established his own hatchery. In 2012 a sausage factory and a production line for convenience food started . At the beginning of 2013, the transport logistics was spun off into the newly founded Frisch Express GmbH.

In 2014, several German turkey fattening companies that supplied the Ampfing slaughterhouse came under fire from animal rights activists, whereupon the Huber Group's large customers from the grocery trade temporarily dropped out. At the end of the same year, an online petition was launched against the expansion of the Ampfing turkey slaughterhouse, which found tens of thousands of supporters within a few days, but was legally ineffective. The expansion was approved in April 2015.

In December 2015, the Huber Group, including the German companies, which had previously been owned by the private foundations of Sylvia Huber (Chairman of the Supervisory Board) and Johannes Huber (Managing Director) via HL Verwaltungs GmbH, became part of the Swiss Coop subsidiary Bell with effect from March 1, 2016 Food Group , from which it will be continued as an operationally independent business unit under the same management.

In August 2019, the Soko Tierschutz association published a video that shows brutal procedures when loading turkeys in Hungary . The video was made at one of the suppliers to the Ampfing slaughterhouse. The association also criticized the transport of animals to Germany over several hundred kilometers at high temperatures .
