Hubert Gebhardt (born February 10, 1956 ) is a former German soccer goalkeeper who was active in the GDR league in the 1980s for BSG Stahl Brandenburg .

Athletic career

Gebhardt began his sporting career as a boxer, but switched to BSG Motor Süd Brandenburg as a teenager and became a goalkeeper there. In 1976 he moved to the second-class BSG Stahl Brandenburg. There, 1.84 m tall Gebhardt was initially only second goalkeeper behind Rainer Wolframm, who was four years older than him, before moving up to number one in the Brandenburg Gate in 1980. In 1983 he was close to promotion to the league, but the BSG Stahl could not prevail in the promotion round, in which Gebhardt played all eight games. In 1984 the Brandenburgers succeeded in the league ascent, in which Gebhardt was involved with twelve of 22 point games and all eight promotion games.

Gebhardt was also in goal in the first league game of BSG Stahl. After the debut against 1. FC Magdeburg failed with 1: 5, coach Heinz Werner made a goalkeeper change with Holger Bahra , and Gebhardt only appeared once in the league in the 1984/85 season. During this season, Brandenburg signed Detlef Zimmer , who was experienced in the league, so that Gebhardt hardly had any chance of playing in the following league seasons . Only in the seasons 1985/86 and 1987/88 he was once in a league game in goal.

Until 1989/90 Gebhardt was reported as the second goalkeeper in the Oberliga lineup of Stahl Brandenburg, after which he migrated to the fourth-class Hessian national division FC 80 Herborn . After guarding the gate there for a few years and also acting as a coach for a short time, he retired from football in the mid-1990s. In 2009 he took over a coaching position at the Hessian SG Aartal.
