Detlef Zimmer (born August 27, 1953 ) is a former German soccer goalkeeper and today's soccer coach .

Athletic career

He began his childhood career at BSG Stahl Halsbrücke. He came to FC Carl Zeiss Jena in 1976 through the stations of FC Karl-Marx-Stadt and BSG Wismut Aue . In Jena he was supposed to be the successor to goalkeeping legend Hans-Ulrich Grapenthin . One condition for this, however, was to break off his "Western contacts". Zimmer refused and was banned for life from the GDR league because of “immoral lifestyle” and other lack of discipline .

He was trainer at BSG BSG Chemie Schwarza until 1983 and then played in the GDR league at BSG Kali Werra Tiefenort until 1985 . He was not allowed to accept offers from 1. FC Magdeburg , HFC Chemie and Energie Cottbus . Only when the general director of the Brandenburg steel and rolling mill, Hans-Joachim Lauck , who was also GDR Minister for Heavy Machinery and Plant Construction, stepped up personally for him, was he pardoned.

From March 1985 to March 1992 he played in 171 league games for the BSG and the BSV Stahl Brandenburg . Twice he won the annual best rating of the trade newspaper fuwo - The New Football Week . In 1990, Detlef Zimmer was the first goalkeeper in the club's history to score a goal in a friendly against Hertha BSC . From 1992 he played for SV Schwarz-Rot Neustadt (Dosse) , VFC Plauen and SV Kloster Lehnin, where he let his career end.

Coaching career

After his active career, he became a coach at Kloster Lehnin, MSV Neuruppin (he led the club from the regional league to the upper league), Dresdner SC , FSV Forst Borgsdorf, FC Stahl Brandenburg (goalkeeping coach), SV Falkensee-Finkenkrug and FC Carl Zeiss Jena (goalkeeping coach), where he was dismissed on June 25, 2008 after relegation from the 2nd Bundesliga. From January 2009 to December 2011 he coached the national league team of FC Stahl Brandenburg .

Professional career

Detlef Zimmer is a sports teacher by profession. In the 1990s he ran a shoe shop in Brandenburg an der Havel. He then worked at the vocational school in Angermünde, where he specifically promoted young footballers in the attached football school.
