from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hubert Hanghofer (* 1951 in Freistadt ) is an Austrian sculptor , object artist and designer .

Life

Hanghofer graduated from the Bundesgymnasium & Bundesrealgymnasium for Working People in Linz in 1976, studied from 1977 to 1978 at the Laurids Ortner master class and from 1978 to 1981 at the Helmuth Gsöllpointner master class at the University of Artistic and Industrial Design . During this time he began to work on concrete biomorphic forms. Sketches and models made of plaster and clay. He realized that the shape of the sculpture is created by a dynamic force field based on a mathematical-geometric structure. Hanghofer lives and works in Kremsmünster , Upper Austria.

The starting point of artistic creation is always a certain inner, visual perception. From the sum of these fragments of perception, the artist develops the form that he can help to develop optimally. Over a long period of time (approx. 1 year) the form crystallizes out of the unconscious and is gradually embodied in a "moving calm" as well as in the "duration" as an expression of perfection within an energetic-dynamic process. The artist's work follows the tradition of a “biomorphic formation process”, a dialogue “between biomorphism and concreteness”, between spontaneity and calculation. Hubert Hanghofer's sculptures are inspired by natural, biomorphic flow processes, as we find them in the formation of shapes in nature and the universe. Materials: bronze, stainless steel, special synthetic resins, carbon fiber (for large objects), in-house development of the Lacquer Technique on special synthetic resin .

Quote

“I only introduced biomorphism and concrete art because Hubert Hanghofer's sculptures initially appear like concrete art and then begin to remind one of biomorphic forms. The last association is gained from the flow character, which makes it flowing out, flowing downward, flowing upward. ”“ With the work here, Hanghofer stands between biomorphism and process geometry. With regard to this point of view, it occurs to you that the artist would like to have borrowed from Brancusi's works . "

- Burghart Schmidt (excerpt from the essay on the work of Hubert Hanghofer "Between Concreteness and Biomorphy, Elegance and Meaning"

Multiforms

The new form-finding from Hubert Hanghofer. "The sculpture should express a completely new shape seal through variable placement". That means: each of his sculptures contains a multitude of sculptural manifestations, which are visible through different positions - on the base, in the room or on a public square. The challenge with this approach, which is probably unique in the sculpting tradition, is a multidimensional, or in this case “multiformal” imagination in the first steps of the design of a sculpture. The beauty and the artistic potential of these works lies in a will to balance opposing poles such as: calm and movement, weight and beat, contraction and extraction, spirit and matter, sound and form, etc. Every form, especially every form of art, stands always in a dialogue with the space that surrounds it. The sculpture and the plastic increase this spatial reference in such a way that they create an additional atmospheric space as “inspiration that has become form”. Manfred Makra 11/2017
