Manfred Makra

Manfred Makra (* 1956 in Graz ) is an Austrian painter and graphic artist , author and curator .

Live and act

Makra opened his first studio in Graz in 1975 and has been working as a freelance artist ever since. His first works were under the influence of post-war painting. From 1975 to 1979 he dealt with cave painting , Art brut and Informel .

In 1980 he reoriented himself, made the acquaintance of works by Antonio Calderara and, based on this, consequently developed his own contemplative language of images and forms that approximated Concrete Art (poetry of the little). He made several trips to Japan where he studied the aesthetics of Japanese Zen Buddhism . From 1990 he turned to wall painting .

Makra has been a member of the MAERZ artists' association since 1986 . He lives and works in Steyr and Vienna .
