Hubert Knaus

Hubert Knaus (born February 13, 1907 in Sankt Veit an der Glan ; † August 16, 1988 there ) was an Austrian politician .

Life

Born as the son of a businessman, Knaus studied agriculture in Hohenheim and Weihenstephan after attending the Klagenfurt secondary school . After graduating, he studied law and political science at the University of Innsbruck . Here he became a member of the Suevia Innsbruck fraternity in 1928 . In 1932/33 he was the editor of the Innsbruck university newspaper . After his exams, he worked at the Klagenfurt regional office . In 1938 he became a member of the NSDAP . In 1939 he moved to Klagenfurt with the 139 Mountain Infantry Regiment and took part in the French campaign in 1940 , followed by a deployment in the Soviet Union . In 1943 he became an officer and was used as a company commander. After being a prisoner of war in Siberia for four years , he was released back home in 1949 and worked in his own farm for agriculture and forestry. In 1955 he became district party chairman of the Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ) in Sankt Veit an der Glan . He was also active as a member of the state party executive and in the state party leadership. From 1956 to 1965 he was a member of the Carinthian state parliament . In 1956 he was also active in the federal party leadership and in the federal party executive committee. From 1965 to 1970 he was regional councilor of the Carinthian regional government and was mainly active in minority politics. In 1957 he was involved in founding the Carinthian Homeland Service , of which he later became an honorary member .
