Hubert Quick (born July 27, 1954 in Weinheim an der Bergstrasse; † October 18, 2019 ) was a German civil engineer for geotechnical engineering and professor hc at the TU Darmstadt .

biography

From 1974, Quick studied civil engineering at the TH Darmstadt, where he graduated in early 1981 in structural engineering with a focus on geotechnical engineering. He then worked as an employee and managing director in various foundation engineering institutes (including Breth and Romberg; Sommer) before founding his own engineering office in 1993, which he has been running (Quick and colleagues - Ingenieure und Geologen GmbH) since 2014 together with his colleagues Michael and Meißner.

Quick taught basic engineering at the Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences from 1991 to 1998. Quick has been teaching high-rise start-ups at the Institute for Geotechnics at the TU Darmstadt since 1995 , which appointed him Professor hc in 2000.

Quick has been a publicly appointed and sworn expert for earthworks and foundation engineering ( IHK Darmstadt ) since 1993 , since 1999 an expert in railway construction in the field of federal railways - subject geotechnical, areas of activity: earthworks and foundation engineering, rock construction, tunnel construction, since 2004 test engineer for earth - and foundation engineering (Chamber of Engineers of the State of Hesse), since 2013 test engineer - earthworks and foundation engineering (Federal Waterways and Shipping Administration) and mediator.

Quick has played a key role in the development of high-rise foundations and deep construction pits as well as their numerical modeling in Frankfurt am Main since 1981 and, together with colleagues ( Katzenbach , Arslan, Breth, Sommer), developed the combined pile-slab foundation (KPP), which today is not only used in Frankfurt, but is used worldwide. In addition to well-known high-rises in Frankfurt ( Messeturm , Commerzbank Tower , Maintower , FOUR), in Berlin ( Sony Center , MK 8), in Munich (Süddeutscher Verlag), Quick also advised many high-rises up to 500 m high, especially in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Qatar.

After the reunification of Germany, Quick provided geotechnical advice for the renovation of the Berlin Reichstag, which was founded partly on wooden piles and partly on bored piles (new plenary hall), and all new buildings for parliament and the government.

In addition to the founding of high-rise buildings, another focus of Quick's activities is tunneling. Approx. 300 km of tunnels in all available tunneling technologies were advised by Quick in various functions at home and abroad. As the person responsible for geotechnical engineering and tunneling as well as for geotechnical risk management, Quick advised the construction of the Brenner Base Tunnel (around 60 km / longest tunnel in the world) on the Italian side from 2007 to 2016 .

The use of geothermal energy (including the founding of high-rise buildings) and risk and geotechnical contract management are further focal points of Quick's activities.
