The Dogenhof is a tenement house (in Vienna: apartment building) at Praterstrasse 70, at the corner of Mayergasse, in the 2nd district of Vienna , Leopoldstadt . The building is a listed building ( list entry ).

history

In 1895, the Venice amusement area opened in Vienna's nearby Prater and Wurstelprater . The building on Praterstrasse was built as a hotel between 1896 and 1898 with the client and landowner Maximilian Haas according to plans by the architect Carl Caufal , but has not been used as such for decades. The house is located in the immediate vicinity of the Praterstern , an important traffic junction in the city, and the Nordbahnhof , which was in operation until 1945 and was the most important train station in Vienna at the time, the successor of which is the Wien Praterstern train station . Immediately adjacent to the Dogenhof, at the address Praterstraße 72, is the formerly Hotel Nordbahn , now run as the Austria Classic Hotel Wien.

architecture

The structure of the facade was modeled on the Ca 'd'Oro in Venice . Arcades with tracery on the second and third floors . The Doge relief with the lion of St. Mark is located above the portal . The cafe on the ground floor has Dogenhof Stuck in the Tudor style .
