Hubert Schaffmeister (born June 19, 1928 in Bochum ; † July 7, 2012 in Iversheim ) was a German glass painter and art professor.

Life

In the 1940s, Schaffmeister studied painting with Friedrich Vordemberge and glass painting with Wilhelm Teuwen , whose assistant he became in 1952, at the reopened Cologne factory schools . In 1957 he took over the Artistic Basics department , which he headed until 1974.

Schaffmeister's main focus was sacred painting. He developed his own distinctive symbolic and visual language in his works and was appointed professor for glass painting in 1974. At the Cologne Cathedral and numerous religious buildings in the Rhineland his pictures can be seen on glass, canvas and wall. In 1993, when the art department in the art and design department was closed and the Art Academy for Media (KHM) was re-established, he left the university and retired to his studio in the Eifel region. He was married to the picture weaver Karin Schaffmeister (1935–2013)
