The Hubert Sohler machine and ski factory was a company that manufactured ventilation systems for the textile industry and ski in Wangen im Allgäu in the Ravensburg district in Baden-Württemberg . The company was the only series manufacturer of skis in the Allgäu .
Company history
The company was founded in 1945. Initially, the company was active in rented halls of the textile finishing company Erba AG in Wangen, which is still based in Zurich . In 1948 the company moved to what was then the production facility in the industrial area. The actual main activity of the company was the production of simple wooden prefabricated houses and the execution of simple joinery and carpentry work . The first skis, made in small numbers, were made entirely of wood.
At times the company was also involved in the implementation of larger construction projects, such as the restoration of the railway bridges that had been bombed during the war on the Kißlegg – Hergatz railway line between Wangen and Ratzenried , a sports hall in Wangen and other war damage repairs.
Series production of skis began in the early 1950s. Another pillar was created in the development of ventilation systems for the textile industry . In the 1950s and 1960s, Sohler skis were a well-known branded product around the world . World championships and FIS races were won on these skis and speed records were achieved. The ventilation systems became an export product with a share of 85% of the company's annual turnover in the 1970s. In 1975 the company employed 120 people. The management of the ski factory was in the hands of Manfred Sohler, who had been with the company since 1965.
Success with Sohler skis
