Hubert Van Innis (born February 24, 1866 in Elewijt ; † November 25, 1961 in Zemst ) was a Belgian archer and multiple Olympic champion .

At the age of 14 Hubert Van Innis took part in his first international competition in the Netherlands . The archery had great tradition in Belgium and still is to this country's most successful sport in the Olympics. Van Innis played a major role in this.

At the Olympic Games in Paris in 1900 Van Innis won two gold and one silver medal, making him the most successful archer of these games. Twenty years later, at the Olympic Games in Antwerp in 1920 , at the age of 54, he won another four gold and two silver medals. Again, no other shooter was more successful than him.

With a total of nine medals, six gold and three silver, Van Innis is the most successful Olympian of all time in his country and also the oldest athlete in his country to have won a gold medal. His medal successes are also an outstanding achievement among all Olympic participants.

In 1933 Hubert Van Innis won the title of world champion with the Belgian team , and a year later he took second place in the championships.

Van Innis, an architect by trade, was also an excellent archer with the crossbow , so that he was quickly nicknamed the Belgian William Tell and appointed doyen of archers. A bust commemorates him in his birthplace Elewijt.
